Being a Mother…

Being a mother is not only the most demanding role in my life, but it is also the most rewarding.

As a mother, showers are always interrupted, magazines go unread, most of my time is spent in the kitchen because there is always someone who is hungry, the rest of my time is spent in the bathroom – there is always a bottom to be wiped. And in between there is disputing arguments, mending owies and my goodness, I should not forget to mention the cleaning.

But, these are not the moments that define me as mother.

Being a mom has created an entire different outlook on what is important in my life. My happiness and joy now stems from the little things like the look  on my children’s’ faces when they accomplish something new and the fascination they find in the world around them. I find a sense of appreciation when my gentle touch soothes them while they are sick. Their giggles are better than any material item and with no doubt, above all, the best thing in the entire world is to watch them stretch their arms out as far as possible to describe how much they love me.

Being a mom means I sacrificed a lot, but I have gained so much more.

The memories I hold most precious are the moments of just being together – hanging out. Our dance parties, fashion shows, craft session, blowing bubbles, family movie night and our early morning conversations when our daughters climb into our bed at the crack of down. Some mornings I wish they would just sleep in or watch some early morning cartoons. Other mornings I pray that these early morning conversations never end.

In my heart, they will always be my little girls. Even though through the years, I have tried my best to teach them, ultimately they are who taught me a thing or two about finding joy from the little things and happiness from within.
